Medical - Dental
Integration

Integrating dental services into Medicare has the potential to save the U.S. healthcare system up to $42 billion annually by improving care for patients with diabetes and heart disease.

A report by the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health estimates that providing periodontal treatment could save between $3.6 billion and $14.5 billion per year for older adults with diabetes, and between $6.9 billion and $27.8 billion per year for those with at least one heart condition.

It is incredibly complex to unlock these savings given our silo'd healthcare delivery system.  It takes meticulous planning, operational integration and technology to align and incentivize medical and dental providers to work together for early detection and prevention of inflammation and chronic disease.

Medical Payors

Are dental benefits and administration included in your products?

A study by Cigna found that members who had routine dental visits for three consecutive years saved an average of 4.4% on total medical costs per member per year over five years. Additionally, these members experienced a 22% reduction in emergency room and urgent care visits.

Dental Payors

Have you partnered with a health plan to incentivize your providers and patients for early detection and screening?

Medical-dental integration gives insurance companies a competitive edge by attracting more policyholders, strengthening employer and payer relationships, and leveraging shared data for better risk assessment—ultimately driving growth and profitability.  We can help.  Dentist's should be taking blood pressure and A1C's for their patients, and getting paid for it.  PCP's should be evaluating periodontal disease and salivary diagnostics.

Medical & Dental Support Organizations (MSO's & DSO's)

Do you have the infrastructure in place to bring your providers together for the benefit of the patient?  Your competitors do.

By incorporating primary medical services like diabetes and hypertension screenings into dental visits, and periodontal exams as part of an a patient's annual wellness exam or physical, Pacific Dental Services enables early detection of systemic conditions, leading to better patient management and increased treatment acceptance and adherence to care plans.

Accountable Care Organizations (ACO's)

Payers will be driving new benefit design to include both medical and dental.  Is your ACO ready?

A study by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) highlighted that a limited number of ACOs include dental care as part of their care coordination strategy, with around three percent currently offering such integration.  MDI is coming for your members and providers - Investing in the network and operational design now is critical!
